Black Women Photographers (BWP) is committed to dismantling the barriers that make it difficult to discover and commission Black creatives. Our mission is to serve as a powerful resource for industry gatekeepers, ensuring that Black and African women creatives receive the recognition, visibility, and professional opportunities they deserve.

The purpose of our photo walks or in-person meet-ups is to bring our global community members together in a safe space to create, network, and learn from each other. For some members (and models), our meetups are the first chance they’ve had to meet and work alongside other photographers that look like them.

Through conversations from our meetups and workshops one gap we wanted to support black women photographers with was entering gallery spaces. We curated the first ever all BWP Photo Exhibition in Milwaukee, WI in 2024. This allowed the BWP to learn from a fine arts perspective how to write, and price their work in a local art Gallery.
